The roof garden at One Superior Place is located in the heart of downtown Chicago. This seventh floor roof terrace was designed as a retreat for relaxation and entertainment for tenants at One Superior Place. Jacobs Ryan Associates was asked to re-envision the 12,000 square foot space that contained out-of-date planters, minimal planting material and a small pool deck. The new design used sinuous lines, exotic hardwoods and vertical structures to create spaces for both passive and active enjoyment.

  The pool deck was enlarged to create more space for lounge chairs, while ipe planters add lush vegetation and a splash of color. Pergolas were constructed to shade guests using the barbeque kitchen and for those enjoying a drink at the built-in bar. A lounge area with comfortable furniture overlooks an extensive green roof where raised planters frame the skyscrapers beyond. In the evening, metal basins glow with soft flames to warm visitors on chilly evenings.

Innovative lighting design makes the pergola columns look like champagne bubbles. Overall, the roof terrace and garden presents building tenants with a multitude of recreational choices, whether it is taking a swim, grilling food with friends, socializing at the bar, or relaxing in front of a fire in the outdoor lounge.
